Ms Wendy Jenkins
Dip Mus Ed.
Wendy graduated from the NSW Conservatorium of Music after 4 years of tertiary study as a music educator in 1973 and moved to Bathurst to teach at Bathurst High School. From that time her commitment to bands, orchestras and varied ensembles has become the cornerstone of her long career. She has formed and fostered groups within Bathurst, across the region and broader NSW for over 40 years.
Her bands have performed successfully at State Championships and a variety of Eisteddfods. They have entertained at visits from the Queen, Governor’s General tours, State and Federal Ministerial visits, and the wider communities of several towns and cities throughout NSW. Two of Wendy’s concert bands were chosen to perform at the Sydney Opera House.
She has been a Musical Director and Conductor for the Carillon Theatrical Society productions since 1997, the Founding Director of the Bathurst City & RSL Youth Band from 1994 – 2003, and up until her newly assigned role as Musical Director for the Bathurst City & RSL Concert Band – had been a recurring member, playing various instrumental roles such as flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones.
Wendy has received acknowledgement of her service and dedication to music from a number of professional and community organisations over her career, including Director General Awards, Rotary and Citizenship Awards and Trinity College Excellence in Teaching Recognition.
Wendy welcomes the opportunity to continue to grow the 130 year proud tradition of the Bathurst City & RSL Concert Band as it’s first female conductor and to build on it’s repertoire, capabilities and wider acceptance across the Bathurst Region.
We are very thankful for Wendy’s continued support and love for the RSL Concert Band, and look forward to showcasing our music under her guidance!
