Fresh from its enthusiastic reception at the Annual Brucedale Picnic Concert on Sunday March 9, the Bathurst City and RSL Concert Band will be performing in the Rotunda in Machattie Park on Sunday March 30 from 12 till 2 p.m. If you missed Brucedale, or would like to hear our exciting current repertoire again, this is a chance to enjoy a free concert in the midst of the mellow Autumnal glow of Bathurst’s most beautiful park.
The band’s wide and varied choice of attractive music appeals to a full range of tastes provides an uplifting accompaniment to the leisurely garden promenade or the relaxed repose on the lawn with a rug and a picnic hamper for the perfect amiable Sunday afternoon.
The pieces premiered at Brucedale included a toe tapping selection of Benny Goodman dance tunes from the Swing era, a Suite from Handel’s ever popular Water Music and even the mighty Queen rock anthem Bohemian Rhapsody.
The choice will also include the toe tapping rhythms of Latin music, music from well known movies such as Lord of the Rings, musical comedy selections from Jesus Christ Superstar, and Phantom of the Opera and the odd traditional snappy march by the likes of John Philip Sousa, the March King. Truly something for everyone.
The band’s next subsequent appearance will be on Anzac Day Commemoration at the Carillon for the RSL Sub Branch, followed not long afterwards in May by the Proclamation Day celebrations for Bathurst Regional Council.
The theme of this year’s winter concert, to be announced soon, is eagerly awaited. In 2013 the Verdi Wagner 200th Anniversary was celebrated and in 2012 it was Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with the triumphantly received Pomp and Pageantry concert.
Then the busy round of Springtime engagements such as St Catherine’s Fete will commence and the year will culminate as always with Carols by Candlelight in Machattie Park for Mitchell Conservatorium. And, of course, planning is already underway for the momentous Bathurst Bicentenary year of 2015, which is also the band’s 130th Anniversary.
The band rehearses on Wednesday nights at the band hall in Walmer Park, Bradwardine Rd., from 7-9pm. New recruits are always welcome. Conductor Mathias Rogala-Koczorowski can be contacted on 63360807.
