SPECTACULAR BAND FESTIVAL TO FEATURE RAN BAND
The Royal Australian Navy Band, from HMAS Kuttabul in Sydney, will conclude The Bathurst City & RSL Band 130th Anniversary Festival on Sunday November 22 with a free concert in the BMEC Theatre at 5 pm. We are thrilled to have such an illustrious ensemble, possibly the best band in Australia, as our guests of honour.
The Festival, an endorsed Bathurst 200 Event, is to be a free all day entertainment for the public in beautiful Machattie Park, behind the Courthouse, which will be in it’s Springtime glory, to celebrate the service of the band to the civic, ceremonial and artistic life of the Bathurst community since 1885. The many school and community bands from Bathurst and the region have been invited to take part, playing on a roster in the magnificent heritage Rotunda next to the Fountain, starting at 10.30 am.
A marching display by Scots School Pipers will introduce the spectacular massed bands event, which will be a vivid reenactment of the Battle of Waterloo, based on Beethoven’s Wellington’s Victory, around 3 pm. The surround sound musical effects will be accompanied by troops marching on in uniform to massed drums, musket volleys, trumpet fanfares and conclude with Beethoven’s triumphant Victory Symphony.
There will be food vans on the outskirts, a historic memorabilia marquee and souvenir stall. We have held similar Festivals in the past for previous anniversaries and for the Rededication of the Lewins Gate, first erected for the 50 year Jubilee of the Bathurst District Band, as it was then, and founding Conductor Sam Lewins. They have been very successful and drawn big crowds. Bands from Dubbo, Parkes, Forbes, Grenfell, Lithgow and the Blue Mountains will be sharing our celebrations, as well as local community groups Carillon Showband, Musique Classique, Harmonikos Jazz and School bands from Cathedral, Assumption, Mackillop and All Saints.
After this al fresco extravaganza we adjourn indoors to the BMEC Theatre for the crowning glory of the Navy Band concert, followed by the Bathurst City and RSL Concert Band playing some of the special favourites of Conductor Mathias Rogala-Koczorowski, making his farewell due to health issues after a tenure of 25 years, second only to the legendary Sam Lewins.
Don’t miss this wonderful free entertainment, one of the highlights of the Bathurst 200 Year, sure to live long in the memory.
